Maree Basketball Club’s senior women’s side look to land the first piece of silverware of the season on Sunday when they take on Ulster University Elks in the division one cup final at the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght (2pm).

Bish captain Brian Gaffney was the hero for St Joseph’s College when they won the schools U16A National Cup by two points over fellow Galwegians, Calasanctius College, Oranmore.

Maree Basketball Club will enjoy the Christmas break after its senior men and women’s sides recorded another double at the weekend.

Maree’s Women’s Division 1 side produced a brilliant second-half fightback to claim the honours in the top-of-the-table clash with Portlaoise Panthers in Oranmore on Saturday; but the club’s Men’s Superleague side went down to Tralee Warriors in the second game of a double header at Calasanctius College.
